One of the big events to cap December was our Winter Homecoming for our Severely Handicapped students! Thanks to the wonderful SH students and teachers for working with ASB in putting this together and thanks to Coach Cori’s Water Polo team for joining in the festivities … made for an even bigger party … and we know: THE MORE, THE MERRIER!
Just a quick update on AVID tutors. Angel Juarez (HHS Alumni) has submitted all his paperwork is currently waiting to be cleared. There was slight delay in him submitting his paperwork, but he should be ready to go soon. With his background in math (calculus) and physics, he will be working in the 11th and 12th grade AVID classes . Also, yesterday Ms. Cuevas, Ms. Lopez, and myself interviewed and hired Lilia Espinoza (HHS Alumni). She has extensive tutoring experience both here at HHS with the Summer Algebra Academies and is currently working with an outside tutor company. She will be working in our 9th grade classes since that is where our need for additional tutors is now. She’ll be with us Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
This week students in US History presented 1920 social change lessons on a variety of topics. Some of the topics the students taught included, popularity of radio and movies, prohibition, changing role of women and sports mania.
PE is preparing the students for their final next week. LOTS of fitness activities.
12th Grade: In the week between Winter Break and final exams, seniors are working on resumes, references, and job applications. ERWC students will be beginning a new module after final exams.
11th Grade: English 3 students are studying Transcendentalism and working with sentence frames to introduce, explain, and express opinion on quotes from the essays “Civil Disobedience” and “Self-Reliance.”
AP Language and Composition students continue to focus on the argument essay and completed reading A Farewell to Arms over the Winter Break.

Mr. Chapman’s students are finishing up the French Revolution and its 3 stages. They will be playing Jeopardy to review for material on the final. In addition, some of his students that took the CAHSEE are either celebrating their passing scores, while some are figuring out a plan for what they need to work on when they take the test again this Spring.
This week we received our very own COW to use in conjunction with the language lab. We will begin immediately to use the laptops to prepare for the AP Spanish and French exams. Thanks for this wonderful resource.
