Law Enforcement Academy Graduation

The OUHSD Aquatics Centers projects at Adolfo Camarillo and Hueneme High Schools have received the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) 2015 Project Achievement Award.

SOCIAL SCIENCE

Finals week! Students in all classes completed both Content and Common Core based assessments.

ELD

In Math 1A, the students are learning how to solve one-step equations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.  We are also reviewing our times tables, operations of decimals, fractions, integers, simplifying expressions by combining like terms, using the distributive property, simplifying exponents, square roots, and following the order of operations. This will lead us to our comprehensive final exam!

VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS

  • Illustration: Insect drawings
  • Visual Art: Texture combination painting
  • Art Appreciation: Drawings based on Albrect Durer masterworks.
  • Marching Band: (1) Getting a jump on Semester 2 with sight-reading possibilities for Festival Competition. (2) Major scales and their relative Minors, plus Chromatic scales in all keys.
  • Symphonic Band: Studying Blues patterns in popular music.
  • Choir: Applied Theory and Sulfege Singing
  • Music Appreciation: Medieval Music around the World presentations (group collaboration project)
  • Mariachi: Learning new keys through warm-up exercises and sight reading repertoire.

SCIENCE

The volcano research project took a total of 5 days to complete. A period and a half of doing research at the library online, a lecture, a worksheet out of the textbook, and a period and a half creating the posters. Friday was presentations, then students posted their work on the outside wall of the classroom for a gallery walk (accompanied by a worksheet) and finally, rationalized peer-grading of posters for completeness and style.

WORLD LANGUAGE

The World Language department is delighted to have a COW to use in conjunction with our language lab. This next semester, we will focus on preparing for AP exams and using the Lab for oral practice. French  1 classes made crepes as a final cultural experience for the semester.

AVID

AVID Elective teachers  (Mr. Cabral, Ms. Lane, Ms. Soliz, Mr. Gallegos, Mr. Garrett) and Co –Coordinators (Ms. Briggs, Ms. Lopez, and Mr. Zamora)   met Wednesday to discuss plans for summer institute, review the criteria for the AVID Scholarship that will be offered this spring, and tutor schedules for spring semester.  Additionally, we discussed recruitment for our feeder schools for our incoming  9th grade AVID students at E.O. Green, Blackstock, and Haydock.

ATHLETIC HIGHLIGHTS

Boys’ Soccer opened league on Tuesday against #7 ranked Oxnard. Please congratulate the guys on a 2-0 win against the jackets. JV came through with a 5-1 win as well.
