Safety

The following information is provided to ensure we facilitate a safe and secure school environment for all students, staff, and visitors.

Lockdown procedures

Level 1

A Level 1 lockdown is when there is a significant threat on the school campus.
In a Level 1 lockdown, the Principal or the Principal’s designee will announce over the intercom system that there is a Level 1 lockdown in effect.

  •  Shut and lock doors, close windows, and close curtains if applicable.
  • Teachers will conduct a roll call and identify any missing students from their classroom. This information must be given to the front office, via the HHS Emergency Roll Sheet google sheet, e-mail, or telephone IMMEDIATELY.
  • Direct students to put cellular phones on silent/vibrate and turn on the classroom computer.
  • Teachers will NOT continue teaching their classes. Use classroom furniture to barricade doors and windows and make every effort to keep everyone in the classroom quiet and out of sight.
  • Once the lockdown has started, teachers should NOT under any circumstances open their doors until the end of the lockdown.
  • Under no circumstances should any person be permitted to leave the room for any reason. Bathroom buckets may be used in the event of an emergency.
  • P.E. will shelter in either the gym or the stadium field house (whatever is closer) and will follow the same procedures as classrooms.
  • P.E. teachers must perform a roll call to determine and report any missing students. This should be done by radio, cell phone, or landline if available.
  • Rooms will be cleared by the Oxnard Police Department. The classroom doors should not be opened. Police and Administrators will have keys.
  • The lockdown will be canceled by the Principal or Principal’s designee announcing over the intercom that the lockdown is over.
  • The SRO (School Resource Officer) assigned to the school or another SRO will respond to the school to help with the lockdown.
